Three organizations, three accounts

The CDCP is run by the government but paid out through an insurance company — so your information is split across three places. Here's who does what:

1. My Service Canada Account (MSCA) — applications and letters

Use MSCA to apply for the CDCP, renew each year, check your application, read your letters (including your enrolment letter with member ID and start date), and update your address or communication preferences. You sign in with GCKey or a Sign-In Partner (your bank login). Tip: set your communication preference to "Digital" to get decisions by email instead of waiting for the mail.

2. my Sun Life — claims and your member card

Once you're enrolled, Sun Life administers the actual dental benefits. In the my Sun Life account you can see your claims history, plan details, and download a printable member card. Sun Life also runs the provider search — see how to find a CDCP dentist.

3. CRA My Account — the taxes behind it all

You never apply for the CDCP through the CRA, but your eligibility is decided by your tax return — your adjusted family net income. CRA My Account is where you check that your (and your partner's) returns are filed and processed. Unprocessed taxes are the most common reason applications stall.

No login at all: the Status Checker

Just want to know where your application is? The official Status Checker needs no account — only your application code and SIN. See how to check your CDCP application status.

Stay safe

Always start from an official canada.ca or sunlife.ca page — never from a link in an unexpected email or text. Official sign-in will sometimes redirect you to a trusted partner (your bank's Sign-In Partner page or GCKey); that's expected when you started from the official site. The government never charges a fee to apply or renew, and only official government pages (like the Status Checker) will ever have a real reason to ask for your SIN.
