Two ways to check
- Online: sign in to your My Service Canada Account (GCKey or a Sign-In Partner like your bank), open the Canadian Dental Care Plan section, and check your application status.
- By phone: call Service Canada at 1-833-537-4342 (TTY 1-833-677-6262).
How long it takes
Most decisions arrive within about 4 to 8 weeks, depending on volume and whether your file is complete. The most common holdup: your (or your partner's) tax return isn't processed yet — eligibility can't be confirmed without it.
What happens when you're approved
The government sends you an enrolment letter with your member ID and your coverage start date. Book care only on or after that date, and bring your member ID, your start date, your co-payment level, and a piece of ID to the appointment. Sun Life mails a welcome package (member card and plan details) later; it can take up to three months, and you don't need to wait for it. More in how to apply.
